Haven's Story
Haven is a very sweet and loving girl. When she came to ARTS she was very timid and frightened of everyone she met, especially men. Now, she has really come into her own and has developed an amazing personality. While new things and new people are still scary, she warms up quickly and then becomes very fast friends.
Since coming in to our care Haven has learned how to play with toys (her favourites are stuffies with squeakers in them) and she has learned how to properly socialize with other dogs. She is currently being fostered with medium sized dogs. While she gets along with them most times she can get irritated and bicker with them. She would do well as an only dog but we would be happy to try her with some doggy housemates as well.
Haven is great with children 6 and up but she finds toddlers absolutely terrifying.
Haven has made a huge amount of progress in our care but she will need more work feeling confident, especially while going out on walks when it is busy. She absolutely loves daily walks however, too much traffic and too many people are still scary and a bit overwhelming.
Haven is very trainable, she loves treats and is food motivated. She is very good at sit and lay down but has zero recall outside. It will be best for her to learn these things with her new family and she may benefit from a basic obedience class.
Haven is not without medical needs but is generally healthy. She needs to be on a hypoallergenic food and a monthly injection to control her allergies. If she doesn’t get these injections she will end up with severe ear infections and red and irritated paws. Haven also takes hormones for urinary incontinence but has no accidents as long as she takes the medication regularly.
